Agni beach: rocks, steep slopes and sparkling waters.

Agni , a village in Corfu, is probably best known for its being located over treacherous waters of the Agni Bay, one of so many along Ionian Sea. The beach there is rocky, surrounded by cliffs and steep slopes what makes the place truly picturesque. As www browsers indicate : there are dozens of pictures of that bay on the internet.

The bay and its shore have always been popular among amateurs of taking pictures or diving.Agni beach is situated at the bottom of a very steep and curly lane leading off the main road of the coast. The beach is very steep and rocky, shelves deep into the sea and there are many sharp rocks covering it so that t is unsuitable for children. That is why it is not popular with tourists coming to Rhodes. But people who do appreciate  sheer beauty of nature find it inimitable and bewitching.

Photographers claim that the light there is truly stunning, picuters of the peaceful waters taken never fail to impress. Moreover the beach there usually is nearly empty- professional photographic sessions sometimes take place there.

Agni beach houses a diving school. There are many different options of how to learn to dive, according to personal demands.  There are certain stages : from a total beginners, through somebody who has already had a stab at it to nearly professionals. Waters there are clear and warm all year long. That is why this diving school is so prosperous.

Resorts in the south part of Corfu

One of the resorts that definately deserves to be described and recommended and has not been described yet is Petriti. It is a tiny village, the one that had not yet been changed into a hasty and noisy tourist resort where it is really nearly impossible to hear your own thoughts. Petriti managed to save its  Greek character, inimitable and so beckoning for those who seek peace, laziness and quietness of a country.

There is a thoroughfare, a harbour housing colourful boats that are the main tool for making money in the village as most of Petriti’s inhabitants make ends meet by fishing. Waters come and go in high-tides and low-tides. Waters sparkle in the daylight and glitter when sun sets or rises. Sand on the beach, that is south fromt he village,  is always impeccable and there are no loud night parties so that Petriti is a promised land for those who are fed up with constant parties. What is more, the village is a bit far away from any busy roads, which is why the air there is truly crystal clear, especially in the moring when the dew appears on each and every leaf and grass blade and refreshes the air dried by the constant sunshine.  holiday in corfu can really be recommended to everyone. As there are places for those for peace and those who seek ado and noise.

Bars after apts: Corfian cuisine.

Once an apt ( an apartment) has been chosen, here comes the time to explore internet forums aimed at describing corfu’s cusine. That seem to be just an inseparable thing in every holiday resort: a place to eat somethig typical for  the region.

Every bar in corfu has different menu , in this or that way, yet overall one thing is common for any restaurant and bar: they all offer this stunning mixture of tastes  and spiecies that grew on the ground of history and changind rulers of the island. It is just fascinating to look through the menu to deduce which dish can be ascribed to which nation that once was in posession of the island.

Four best known dishes of Corfian cusine can be attributed to the Venetainas, once the rulers of the island. these are Sofrito(sliced veal cooked with a bit of vinegar, garlic and parsley), Bourdeto( a fish stew with papper, that can be really, really hot!), Bianco (a garlicky fish stew) and Pastitsada( a pasta and meat). British invaders also left thier mark on the cusine, puddings are very popular on the isalnd, in many different types.

Yet Corfian cuisine is decidedly not very spicy. There are not many hot condiments that are used, it is more for the variety of tastes of the Mediterranean why the cuisine of the island provides tourists with so many inimitable feelings.

Apartments in corfu: touch the sun

A travel from Athens to Corfu may last up to few hours. Yet there are also direct flights to Corfu so that visitors need not to change means of transport. Pink Palace during summer months, that is from May to October runs a bus connection between the capital of Greece, Athens and Corfu.

There are few sets of apartments scattered all over Corfu, differing in any possible way so that they can be recommended to nearly everyone. Here are only few options to choose from :

1. Spiti Prifti, Gouvia

An ‘A’ class summer resort situated in a lush-green oasis just 7km from Corfu Town, comprised by of 20 comfortable two bedroom self catering apartments and 3 studios with satellite TV, telephone and air conditioning. A warm welcome and hospitality both can be awaited.

2. Kamari Apartments, Acharavi

Situated between Acharavi and Roda, so between two Rhodes most popular holiday destinations. Always crammed with tourists and pounding with the rhythm of the nightclubs. It is only  a 1o-minute walk from the set of apartments to the centre of either of the two resorts. Just perfect.

3. Zambeta Apartments, Arillas

Just 200 metres from the beach, along a  quiet road leading to the centre of Arillas. An ideal place to enjoy the sun and sparkling waters of the Ionian Sea, to wind down and marvel at the beautiful sunsets, to savour the best of Corfu cuisine accompanied by a glass of local wine and traditional Greek music.

Pink Hotel guarantees holidays out of the ordinary.

Moraitika is situated on a plain, just 12 kilometres away from the capital of the island, Corfu, and 10 kilometres from Benitses. It was once a small town < the old part of the settlement still remains on the hills over the sandy beach>. Rapid development of the resort, hotels, restaurants, night clubs emerging at high speed caused Moraitika to reach the bank of the river Messonghi, further lies the town of Messonghi. These two nowadays seem to be melting in one.

Moraitika has plenty of attractions to offer. It is usually full of young people, either tightly-knit groups of friends or couples. Clubs open till late and discos pounding with the rhythm of music until dawn create a bit loose and cheerful atmosphere. Yet Moraitika is not as lively as Kavos, one can find peace here as well.

For those who find renting apartments a bit too bourgeois: in Agios Gorgios there is a hotel, called Pink Palace, for backpackers. Pink Palace offers cheap and comfortable accommodation for a low price. It is aimed mainly at young people seeking great fun and  adventure while on holidays. Yet this place has not only rooms to offer, it also caters for other needs of tourists. There are many activities to choose from: bungee jumping, visiting caves full of bats, snorkeling, hiking and exploring secluded beaches. What is probably most important: the hotel always employs young and enegetic animators that take care of visitors trying to entertain them in the best way possible. Apartments bleak a bit in comparison to Pink Hotel :)

Corfu Golf course

Corfu Golf course is deemed one of the best in Europe. Situated on the west coast, in close proximity to Agios Georgios, Paleocastritsa and Benitses it is easily accesible from any place of the island.

Because of the project, beacuse of the grass and sand, because of the landscape and mainly because of the holiday atmosphere it is wrapped in the course is thought to be decidedly the one that deserves a praise. Designed by a Swiss architect Donald Harradine it caters for the needs of every tourist interested in playing golf. The course is planned so that it fully uses the values of the lanscape: the Valley Ropa and the river Nafsika. Players find it fascinating to benefit from such a designed corse.

Treelined fairways, sandtraps and meandering streams combined with several lakes make the course not only demanding but also picturesque. What is more, even though during summer the weather in Corfu may be unbearable (scorching heat and dazzling sunshine may make the play bitterly unrewarding and simply tiring) the course can always count on refreshing gusts and breeze from over the Ionian Sea that enable players to bear the weather difficulties.

The golf course seems to be yet another reason for tourists from all around the world to come to Corfu. ( apart from Benistses picturesque bay and Agios Georgios climate)

Pelekas and Acharavi: villas to rent

Have you ever thought of enjoying spectacular views of glittering waters of Aegean Sea from your window? Not being disturbed by anyone? Like living in your own home just moved a bit southwards? Renting a villa in Corfu may be then an option for you if the answers for these three questions are all positive.

Pelekas on the west coast of the island is a village perfect just for everyone. For partying enthusiasts as well for protagonists of more peaceful way of winding down. There are clean sandy beaches with shallow aquamarine waters, tavernas fringed with evergreen groves of olive trees, places to practise watersports as well as to entertain yourself in any other way.

Villas to rent may apply to every tourist, depending on his personal demands. Villas : Panorama, Petra, Vrahlo offer simple and basic yet still comfortable accommodation, situated among green olive trees.

Villa Kokkini is a place that best can be described as secluded and alienated, perfect for naturists and people seeking peace. Close to the beach of Myritiotissa and Glyfada as well. Near Glyfada there is also a set of villas and apartments to hire all belonging to Menigos resort.

Villa Takis is undeniably one that is most beautifully situated, on the hills overlooking the Pelekas beach. Not far away from this one there is Villa Papadatos, with windows of its bedrooms overlooking the ever glittering bay.

When it comes down to renting villas Acharavi, situated in the north, greener part of the island, has also many types of villas to offer. An eight-kilometer long beach makes it truly attractive for tourists. Probably the most famous villa in Acharavi is Villa Theodora. Another one worth paying attention to is villa Melenia, situated on the slopes of Mout Pantokrator, only 1 km away from the beautiful beach of Almiros.

Kalami: a place for everyone

Kalami: set in an ideal location somewhere between the bay of Agni and a peaceful harbour of Kouloura. This town is a perfect holiday destination for people who seek kind of a compromise between the hustle and bustle of a busy city and the stunning quietness and laziness of a Greek country. In Kalami one will never get bored and the town, though tiny, has many attractions to offer, ranging from all types of watersports to different kinds of nightclubs to have fun after the sun had set.

The town boasts a cosy atmosphere, not to mention that after work fisherman or waiters from the beach restaurants find their place at already emptying beach and benefit from the last rays of sunshine.

Probably the most comfortable way to accommodate yourself is to hire a studio or an apartment. According to a tourist guide there are many ways of spending free time in Kalami. For instance: an excursion around the town and its neighbourhood on horseback. These areas are unspoiled and such an excursion guarantees unadulterated pleasure for each and every man who participates in it.

Another excursion worth interest is  a hike up the Mount Pantokrator. The paths are perfect for long walks , provided you are strong enough to bear a few-hour long walk in a difficult terrain. The views are breathtaking and fully compensate the effort made to climb the top.

A soft option, again according to the same tourist guide, for those who are not necessarily into climbing may be a day-long cruise, from the harbour in Kalami, to an island Paxos, one of the smallest in the Ionian Sea. Then the ferry heads for Parga, a historical place on the mainland to come back to Kalami in the evening.

Gouvia: where peace melts up with fun

Corfu, the heart of ionian islands, is a centre of tourist life during the peak season. Apartments as a means of accommodation are gaining popularity and there are more and more offerts to choose from. One of the most interesting websites I found recommends unique set of apartments located in beautiful green gardens in Gouvia.

The set contains of 20 self-catering and spacious apartments totally refurbished few yearsa go. On the website there are many pictures presenting pools full of aquamarine water and gardens with tropical plants and palm trees.

The town of Gouvia is famous for its harbour, hosting innumerable small boats and yachts, all colourful and typically Greek. Due to the town and harbour being situated in a curved bay Ionian Sea waters are always peaceful there. And the town itself is a bit secluded because hidden among hills, though not far away from the capital. Gouvia boasts many small bays and safe beaches that provide swimming space even for little children as these waters are warm, shallow and never rough.

Even though the atmophere there seems to be calm and even a bit dull during the day it must be highlighted that the town truly lives only after the sun had set. Then the night life begins: tavernas , bars and clubs are open till the early moring hours. Parties in clubs usually begin at 8 pm but they won’t fully develop till 11pm. And it is not a rarity to meet effete tourists coming back home at the crack of dawn.

Chandris hotels

Dassia, as described before, is one of the most popular tourist resorts on the island. One of the best hotels there is Chandris Hotel, situated only few minutes away from the centre of the town. And only 12 km from Kerkyra: the capital of the island. All the facilities a tourist could claim are available, partly free of charge. Accommodation in a four-star-hotel provides comfort and satisfaction. Chandris is a matter of fact a chain of hotels providing tourists with ‘ Greek spirit and true hospitality’. The one in Corfu is certainly a jewel of the chain, overlooking a sapphire Ionian Sea. It is situated in a close proximity to a beach stretching along Dassia bay, at night perfect for romantic strolls.

Another town that can boast fine accommodation options is Agios Georgios, or St. George. This town, situated on the north-west coast of the island ( because there is also another Agios Georgios, also situated in the west coast) has a large, sweeping sandy cove to offer, perfect for a family rest on a beach. There are no old buildings in the town as it was built as a resort for tourists not so long ago: there one will find no typical Greek spirit. Though there is truly nothig to be seen in this town there is a possibility to go for a walk through the hills surrounding the village- for more fit tourists, yet the views are just spectacular! The town has a few Greek tavernas, watching sunsets while consuming typical Grek dishes is definately an unforgettable experience. Bars and nightclubs in Agios Georgios are situated along the beach. Lack of historical monuments is made up for with innumerable palces of night entertainment.
