Corfu shops, spices and herbs

Corfu, when it comes down to shopping, is a true paradise, a promised land for those that find unaduterated pleasure in enriching their home kitchen with different and various spices that come from parts of the world they are actually visiting.

To make your home kitchen more Greek it is highly advisable to buy olive oil, that is made of Corfian olives that grow fondled by warm sunshine. There is also a wide choice of herb teas that are in innumerable tastes to choose from. After coming back home from holidays in Corfu you will find its spirit in these teas you bought in that cosy little shop and feel like going back to that divine place on Earth. Apart from teos and olive oil it is a must to purchase spices that are most commonly used in Corfu and these are for example:

*anise (used for preparing Uzo, to season lamb, fruit salads and sweet sauces)

*caraway(a herb that is always added to bread, cheeses, roast meat or cakes)

*cayenne pepper(one of the most hot, used mostly to season dishes that combine eggs and noodles)

*laurel leaves(added to different soups)
There are plenty of tiny little markets offering such thngs, for example the one in Kavos, a place where shopping is actually limited to food and other essetials. In Kavos, as in whole Greece you need to remember to haggle hard, either in a shop or on a street market. About corfu you may also say: Greece minimalised to a tiny isalnd, and that will be true: Corfiuan cuisine perfectly reflects Greek one.
