Agios Stefanos is the place in Corfu from which one can easily spot the Turkish coast emerging on the east. Strait that separates Corfu and Turkey is truly a narrow one: a few kilometres wide in some places, and also shallow. Certainly one of the most beautiful places in Agios Stefanos is its bay, secluded, with rocky shore, lined with colourful boats and also yachts < possibly of those rolling in money that come to Cofu each year to forget about tensions of everyday life>.
Anchored in the harbour during the night they usually spend days sailing around , on the peaceful waters of the strait or of the Aegeyan Sea. Visitors may rent such a boat or yacht to participate in a daily , or even longer cruise. That seems to be a perfect way to get to know the coast of the island: to sail around, each day visiting another place. Lazing about, sunbathing or swimming in the crystal clear waters. Like in a Hollywood film ;P Prices of renting such a boat are really different, yet there is a really wide choice of different boast or yachts to choose from.
Arilas is a resort situated on the west coast of Corfu, also perfect when it comes down to sailing. It is located between two bigger towns: Agios Stefanos < not the one mentioned above> and Agios Georgios. Beaches there are sandy and waters of sea are never rough. That is why yachting is so popular there.
2009 is also a perfect year to begin your adventure with yachting.
summer 2009 approaches ;>

Paleo(Paleokastritsa), Agios Stefanos and Roda all located in Corfu have one thing in common : interesting and healthy possibilities of spending free time.
In Paleo, apart form a beautiful beach there is a monastery, located a bit away from the shore, located on the headland is the main focus of attention and was built during the 17th century. Visitors are welcome inside to view the famous ceiling carving of the ‘Tree of Life’, but please, out of respect, make sure that you are suitably dressed. To touch another culture is a great thing when it comes down to undercovering secrets of other religions for example. Orthodox churches are so much different from catholic or protestant ones.
Roda, a village located near Kassiopi is best known for great beaches and places of entertainment for children, as the place is most popular with families with small children. Maybe not so interesting from historical point of view yet perfect for spending nice few weeks.
Agios Stefanos on the other hand is neither most interesting because of its historic value, nor because of particularily beautiful beaches. Agios Stefanos is such an outstanding place on the island because of walking routes that lead through evergreen olive groves: nearby hills are all perfectly achievable by feet. And that is a truly healthy way of spending time during holidays as long walking routes make sure nobody spends too much time doing nothing.

Thinking of vacation in Corfu one gives further consideration to accommodation: what is totally understandable. Yet the moment hotel or an apartment is booked future visitors begin to analyse other aspects of their vacation. One of the main, most important is cuisine. Or rather, the way and places visitors will be eating various dishes. As Corfu is a Greek island it is no wonder that most popular type of restaurant there are tavernas. So: what is a Greek taverna?
Years ago we did have various inns scattered along main roads all over Europe, places to have a square meal, drink and find place to have a good night’s sleep. Those ones later evolved into, for example, Bristish and Irish pubs. Such places in Corfu, or rather, in whole Greece are called tavernas.
You enter the place and first thing that is noticed is the wide, toothy grin of your host. Secondly you smell a really tasty roast lamb and see barrels of best Greek wine. There is no option but to sit down and simply make an order, then wait and finally savour with that raost lamb, or a salad with famous feta cheese. Sipping deliciuos wine just completes the picture.
Corfù , as a truly Greek island , boasts whole lot of different tavernas, so each and every individual will find something for himself.

Sidari, located on the north-west coast of Corfu, is about 45 km away from the capital, Kerkyra. Like all corfian villages it is picturesque in such a degree that just cannot not be expressed in plain words.
Holidays spend there can ba a true mixture of sweet laziness nd real physical effort. Coast there was carved by erosion what makes it really special. Rocks that are formed into different strata are clearly visible as colours of each one differ from one another. What is more, those beautifully shaped rock cliffs surround many little covets that Sidari is probably most famous for. Beaches that stretch along are mostly sandy, offer shallow waters of Ionian Sea to take a bath. For people who are sensitive to the beauty of nature most interesting will be the invitation to long night walks along the beach as rocky coast after the sun had set create innumerable different shapes, that will incite , maybe, some aesthetically pleasurable feelings. For those that are in love there is a special beach, situated near Apotripiti h- there is a canal called Canal d’amour: an area of eroding sandstone cliffs that have formed several tiny sand and shingle coves reached by paths and even ladders.
Accordingly, for those in love, maybe the beast choice of accommodation would be to rent a studio: privacy guaranteed, quality as well. Nothing more to crave for than for clear, blue sky.

Any holiday resort in Corfu must provide some kind of night entertainment. There are places that never stop to beat with the rhythm of the night. Yet there are also places where music is not so important. Places where people go to really set their minds at ease. Such more peaceful resorts usually boast a whole range of different restaurants that offer dishes either typically Greek, either, quite adversely, from all around the world: there are dishes from Mexican, Chinese, Arabic or Italian cuisine. Each and every visitor will find something that will specifically suit his personal taste.
Corfu cuisine is a true mixture of tastes that reflects all the entanglements of its rough history. Each invader left a mark in the tastes that can be found there: Arabs, Vebetians, Turks, the British. Probably most popular in the Corfian restaurants is lamb, that can be prepared in nearly uncountable ways. Yet it is always well-seasoned with herbs such as : oregano, rosemary, basil, parsley and many more. It is not therefore spicy but just tastes in a way that cannot be met in any other part of the world. Apart from herbs, meat may be marinated, baked, grilled. Nowadays there is a tendency to prepare the meal in a way that best suits particular visitors. That is why so many European dishes are served.

Corfu seems to be a perfect place for dreamt holidays. This fact cannot be denied as all those beaches and aquamarine waters make up a scenery straight from a travel agency brochure. Yet there are more and more people who try to mix pleasurable holidays with work. Those inventive ones most often happen to be students that simply cannot afford staying in Corfu in any other way than to find work there and earn for accommodation as the time goes by.
What kind of work is possible to be done in Corfu during the peak season? First of all, there is no denying the fact that during summer months demand for places to eat something rises quite dramatically. That is why restaurants and tavernas do seek people to help in the kitchen or in maintenance overall. Waiters, cooks, cleaners or animators needed. Everybody can therefore find something for himself: depending on his/her abilities and expectations when it comes down to the work done. Information may be found in the Internet.
Secondly, in the bigger resorts, those where the bright lights never fade and all nightclubs are open till the crack of dawn, there are many possibilities to find a job in one of such places of entertainment. Managers of such places are on the constant look-out for waiters or cleaners, DJ’s even are sometimes need. to find a www website is not a hard task, to log in on a job pilot portal is neither too complicated. And it seems to me that this may truly be the only way to find information about a good job: via the Internet. Long live www. … .com sites!

Perama, a nice resort located in the vicinity of Pontikonissi, is definately a resort that may be recommened to anybody seeking peace and quiet. First of all: it is located just perfectly, only 9 kilometers from the capital of the island: Kerkyra. Yet at the same time there are only as few as 900 permanent inhabitants in the village so it just can’t be a next busy resort that has nothing to do with undercovering the secrets of true Greece.
Apart from having a whole lot of possibilities of how to accommodate oneself Perama also boasts a truly wide choice of places to eat or have a drink: restaurants, tavernas, cafes, bars or plain pubs. Greek cuisine is of course the base of any menu offered in any local yet there are alos other dishes to choose from ranging from Turkish or italian cuisine to meals from just all around the world.Swimming is possible at the beaches of the area, all of them very nice and well enough organized. This village is probably the most known for beautiful villas that in the peack season are for rent.
Farther from Kerkyra, actually as much as 35 km away there is a village named Agios Georgios. Only recently it is becoming more and more popular among groups of tourists. It must be partly because of one of the best hotels that can be found on the island, named Alkyon. Three-star but with everything that may be desired during dreamt holidays. Alkyon Hotel is a perfect place for vacation for families with toddlers as well as those with teenagers eager for parties.

The northern part of the island of Corfu is the closest to Albania coast. This part of island boasts one of the most reknown holiday resorts: Kassiopi. In the vicinity of the town there is, as local people believe, a place where a temple of Zeus once visited by Nero stood. To see the place must be a true attraction not only for those interested in mythology and history. There is also a tip of Cape of St Barbara: the place from which Albania may actually be seen. Crossing Kassiopiu one reaches the slopes of Mount Pantokrator: the highest one in Rhodes. There, one the roud around the feet of the mountain there are two interesting villages: Achravi and Almyra, sharing the same beach: one of the widest and longest on the island. This place may be described as a true oasis: hidden among olive groves, on the edge of Ionian Sea provides refreshment even during the most scorching wave of heat.
Going further as the road to the south leads there are two villages most popular with British tourists: Roda and Sidari. Visitors coming there seem to be true enthusiasts of taking pictures as they do never part with their cameras. Less known among the British is Karousades, a town located further to the south, where the land flattens a bit. Roads in that part of the island are exceptionally good, enable fast and comfortable transport. There are plenty of places that offer car renting: whatever the season. That way of travelling in Rhodes seems to be the most recommendable: all of the most famous spots are available at any time of day and night, if a visitor only has a car. One more attraction may be Mount Pantokrator: a perfect mount to climb even if you are not a qualified climber or an ideal background for taking unforgettable photos.

Agios Ioannis is a tourist resort situated southwards from Kerkyra, the capital of Corfu. As it lies on the east coast it is more often than not visited by high winds that make the beach there a true paradise. There is a centre of watersports that enables visitors to have a stab at different types of sports: snorkeling, scuba-diving( yet truly speaking the bottom of the Ionian Sea there is not so interesting, covered with golden sand, the same that can be found on the beach itself), parachute skiing( a sport constantly gaining popularity, especially among young visitors, as it rises blood pressure truly incredibly)
Another resort located on the east coast is Barbati, northwards from Kerkyra. It offers not only strictly holiday attractions but as well is interesting from the historical point of view: in the vicinity of the village there are ruins of an ancient church of St Nikolas. Although it is always closed it is a truly striking feeling only to see it: such old a building so close to the beach. Hidden further into the land there are many tiny villages worth to be visited and seen as they are just soaked with that typically Greek spirit. For tourists that like hiking it is a must to go for a stroll through the winding paths surrounding the village and see all those breathtaking views of olive grooves covering each and every square metre of the hills above.

According to many travel guides there is one most beautiful sandy beach in Corfu, just way ahead of others. The golden, sandy, soft miracle can be found in Glyfada, a resort situated oon the west coast. Reviews on the place may differ a bit yet they all agree on one fact: Glyfada never becomes overcrowded, even in August, the time when Italians onslaught the island. It is not a place for those who seek all night parties.
Glyfada is best for families with kids, spades, colourful moulds and bouquets are indispensable. Sand castles grow reaching spectacular heights. Moreover waters are there peaceful and shallow. Perfect for small children. Yet there are also attractions for teenagers and adults. Maybe the most famous landmark in Glyfada are rocks clearly visible from the shore and swim-accesible from the beach. They were used in few commercials and unchangeably have their place in every travel guide mentioning Glyfada. Those brave and bold do climb them <the highest point is over 40 feet high over the water surface> and have jumps that undeniably rise their blood pressure a lot. There is alsoa centre of watersports in glyfada: one that deserves to be mentioned is jet skiing!
Not far away from glyfada there is Mitotissa: a place where a small and quiet monastery is located. Surprisingly there is also a nudist beach in close proximity to the holy place!
